| Born in Sabadell ( Barcelona ) Lluís came to photography after a serious diving accident put an end to his career as a deep-sea diver. Ironically the accident happened when he was building the breakwaters that would protect the future beaches of Barcelona; beaches that now provide the colorful canvas on which his series The Beach is based. Lluís studied photography at the Institut d'Estudis Fotografics de Catalunya, after which he started working for several agencies and newspapers. In 1996 Lluís moved to London where he lived for ten years, developing his photographic style, which has been influenced by both British and American photographers. Strong flash to overcome daylight or the night, bold colors and in-your-face compositions. The work of Lluis Artus blends the aesthetics of commercial work with the creative interest of personal projects that intend to tell stories of people and culture.
